Description
STEP is the flush-mounted end of solar lighting: low-profile units for deck edges, stair treads and driveway surfaces, where a stake light would be in the way and a bollard would be absurd. They mark a level change at night, which is the single most useful thing outdoor lighting does and the one most gardens get wrong or skip entirely.
The specification is what separates these from disposable versions. A high-efficiency panel and a 1000mAh battery give 16 or more hours of continuous light from six hours of direct sun, so they are still lit at four in the morning rather than dying before midnight. The body is polycarbonate rather than thin ABS, pressure-resistant enough to be driven over on a driveway without cracking.
Fix them to deck boards or step nosings with the supplied screws, or set them into a driveway surface. Site each unit where it will take direct sun for a good part of the day, since a shaded panel is the usual reason a set underperforms. Clear leaves and grit off the panels in autumn. Runtime depends on daily sunlight; expect shorter performance through midwinter and in shaded positions.

Can I really drive over them?
Yes. They are pressure rated for vehicle loads and sit flush with the surface, so tyres roll straight across without touching the lens.
How are they fixed down?
Screws through the base into decking, or adhesive on solid concrete. Both take minutes and hold firm through every season.
Are they properly waterproof?
They carry an IP68 seal, the highest everyday rating there is. Rain, snow, hose water and standing puddles are all fine.
How bright are they?
