OBELISK sets a softly tapered shade on a tall rectangular base with a naturally varied surface. The proportion is classical - a slim vertical column balanced by a broader silhouette above - and it is the arrangement that reads as a proper lamp rather than a decorative object with a bulb pushed into it.
Twin pull chains add a practical detail that has largely disappeared from modern lighting. They let you switch the lamp at the lamp, without reaching behind a sideboard for an inline switch or getting up to find a wall plate, and they give the piece a tactile quality that a hidden rocker switch does not.
